Teufel System 5 THX Select
The new System 5 THX Select represents a perfect combination of incredible sound, easy home installation and affordable price.
It was no simple task to try and improve the System 5 THX Select, which is already an almost perfect speaker set given its price class, but our engineers took up the challenge and succeeded. All satellite speakers were endowed with new chassis, which were assigned a custom crossover point based on their respective functions. The cover grille was also redesigned for additional frequency response linearisation.
The basic design of the speakers was left unchanged, however. For good reason, since the horizontal layout of the front speakers with D’Appollito configuration plays a critical part in the success of this legendary speaker system. Another important part is the special dipole speaker that is used to fill the entire rear zone with sound. For that extra bit of real cinema atmosphere.
With the new M 5500 SW subwoofer we managed to fulfil the strict requirements of THX Select while also reducing the enclosure volume. This was no easy task since a large enclosure volume is still the best way of achieving a high sound volume level. Drawing from our extensive experience in subwoofer construction we managed to complete this task, and the M 5500 SW THX Select now takes up significantly less space than its larger predecessor.
The compact housing with flanking panels on the front had enough room for us to install a 300 mm neodym woofer powered by an amplifier featuring 600 watt peak power and 350 watt nominal power. The class D amplifier generates very little waste heat and hence requires less electricity for the same power output. The DPU reflex system helps ensure that the bass is both powerful and free of distortion.
The System 5 THX Select combines a subwoofer and five satellite speakers to solve two of the biggest problems facing many fans of modern audio engineering: the space requirements of multi-channel systems and merging the worlds of stereo and home cinema. The speakers, which are suitable for rooms up to 50 sqm, are even smaller than the DIN A4 format when viewed from the front yet sound phenomenally good in either stereo or home cinema mode!
Extremely high speech intelligibility, excellent traceability and amazing volume control guarantee pure and unadulterated listening enjoyment. This system is the compelling result of Teufel’s extensive experience in developing speakers combined with the strict requirements of THX engineers, who award the THX Select seal of approval as a subset alternative of the full THX Ultra 2 Standard.

After all, the new System 5 costs less than half of what its predecessor model did when it was first released!
The set is a perfect addition to all THX Select receivers, and can also be used with any other conventional AV receiver.
